Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The SAINTS Nutritional Supplement Cocktail is a multi-ingredient dietary supplement regimen developed by Mid-Atlantic Retina Consultations, Inc. for the adjunctive treatment of retinal vascular and degenerative diseases. Evaluated in the SAINTS (Supplements and Minocycline for DME and NAMD) clinical trial, the cocktail is designed to provide intracellular nutritional support and mitigate oxidative stress, which are key drivers in the progression of diabetic macular edema (DME) and neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). The formulation consists of inosine, a combination of tocopherols, tocotrienols, and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), sustained-release niacinamide, vitamin C, N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), and a complete multivitamin with minerals. These components work synergistically to enhance mitochondrial function, boost endogenous antioxidant levels (such as glutathione), and provide direct scavenging of reactive oxygen species. In clinical studies, this cocktail was investigated both as a standalone supplement and in combination with the antibiotic minocycline to determine its ability to improve visual outcomes and reduce the treatment burden of standard anti-VEGF therapies.
