Overview
SAIRIYO (formerly K-001) is a microneedle patch formulation of cevimeline being developed by PharmaTher for the treatment of Sjogren’s Syndrome. Cevimeline is a cholinergic agonist that binds to muscarinic receptors, specifically M1 and M3, to stimulate secretion from exocrine glands such as salivary and sweat glands. By utilizing the proprietary PharmaPatch™ microneedle technology, SAIRIYO is designed to provide a sustained and controlled transdermal delivery of cevimeline. This approach aims to maintain consistent therapeutic levels while potentially reducing the systemic side effects, such as excessive sweating and gastrointestinal upset, that are commonly associated with oral administration of cevimeline (Evoxac).
