SakuraBead Resorbable Microspheres are a temporary embolic agent developed by SakuraBead Ltd for the treatment of chronic pain associated with knee osteoarthritis. These microspheres are designed for Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE), a minimally invasive procedure where the beads are injected into the genicular arteries to selectively occlude the abnormal neovascularization and hypervascularity of the synovium. Unlike permanent embolic agents, SakuraBead is resorbable, providing a transient occlusion that triggers a reduction in inflammatory markers and nerve sensitization before the material is naturally degraded and cleared by the body. This approach aims to provide long-term pain relief while avoiding the risks associated with permanent vascular occlusion.
