Sakuranetin is a naturally occurring methoxylated flavanone classified as a flavonoid phytoalexin. It is found in various plants such as rice and Polyomnia fruticosa, where it acts as a defense compound against pathogens. Sakuranetin exhibits diverse biological activities including strong antifungal and antiviral effects, anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties, and potential benefits in models of acute lung injury, asthma, colitis, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. Mechanistically, sakuranetin modulates inflammatory pathways by inhibiting mitogen‐activated protein kinases (MAPKs), STAT3-SOCS3 signaling pathways, Th2/Th17 cytokines production, cyclooxygenase enzymes COX1/COX2 activity inhibition at high concentrations in vitro, and may influence gut microbiota composition to improve intestinal immune balance[1][3][5][7][10]. It is not an approved pharmaceutical drug but is used experimentally for research purposes.
