SAL015 is a long-acting recombinant fusion protein acting as a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, currently under development by Chengdu Jinkai Biotechnology (a subsidiary of Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals). Designed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, SAL015 mimics the physiological effects of endogenous GLP-1 by stimulating the GLP-1 receptor on pancreatic beta cells. This action enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, inhibits inappropriate glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying, thereby improving glycemic control. The fusion protein structure is engineered to extend the drug's half-life, allowing for a reduced dosing frequency compared to native GLP-1. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials in China.
