Overview

Salacia chinensis extract is a botanical extract derived from the root and stem of the Salacia chinensis plant, a medicinal herb traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine. The extract is notable for its **α-glucosidase inhibitory activity**, which slows carbohydrate digestion and glucose absorption, resulting in **suppression of postprandial (after-meal) blood glucose and insulin spikes**[1][2][3][4]. Mechanistic studies show SCE also **inhibits pancreatic lipase**, reducing fat absorption, and at higher concentrations can inhibit HMG-CoA reductase[1].
