Overview

Saldan is a finished pharmaceutical formulation of sildenafil citrate, a selective inhibitor of cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). Developed and manufactured by Salud Care India Limited, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Sildenafil works by enhancing the effect of nitric oxide (NO) in the corpus cavernosum; NO activates the enzyme guanylate cyclase, which results in increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), leading to smooth muscle relaxation and inflow of blood to the penis. By inhibiting PDE5, the enzyme responsible for the degradation of cGMP, sildenafil maintains higher levels of cGMP during sexual stimulation, thereby facilitating penile erection. Saldan is typically administered orally as a tablet.
