SE-ETAC is an ethyl acetate fraction derived from *Salicornia europaea* L., a halophytic coastal herb commonly known as glasswort. It is being investigated as a natural therapeutic intervention for obesity and associated metabolic disorders. SE-ETAC exerts its effects primarily by upregulating the Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)/Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway and activating AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling. These molecular actions lead to the inhibition of adipogenesis, enhancement of lipolysis, and the induction of adipose browning—the conversion of white adipocytes into metabolically active beige cells—through the upregulation of thermogenic markers such as UCP1, PRDM16, and PGC-1α. Furthermore, SE-ETAC demonstrates anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties by reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and suppressing proinflammatory cytokines including IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α.
