Overview

This investigational topical combination therapy consists of 17% salicylic acid and ethyl pyruvate, specifically developed by Dr. Michael Grossman, D.P.M., for the treatment of plantar warts. Salicylic acid, a well-known keratolytic agent, functions by dissolving the keratin protein that constitutes the wart tissue. The addition of ethyl pyruvate, a food additive generally recognized as safe (GRAS), is intended to enhance the penetration and persistence of the salicylate within the skin. The combination is being evaluated in clinical trials to determine if it provides superior cure rates for recalcitrant plantar warts compared to standard 17% salicylate treatment alone.
