**Salicylic acid + iron oxide nanoparticles** refers to a hybrid nanomaterial in which iron oxide nanoparticles (commonly Fe3O4) are functionalized or loaded with the drug salicylic acid. This combination leverages the broad-spectrum bioactivity of salicylic acid (including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer potential) and the unique drug delivery and/or imaging properties of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles. Salicylic acid, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, acts through cyclooxygenase inhibition and other cellular pathways; when conjugated or loaded onto iron oxide nanoparticles, its controlled release can be achieved and off-target effects reduced. Functionalization improves the nanoparticles' colloidal and chemical stability and can enhance their performance as drug carriers for targeted, controlled or sustained release, especially for cancer, infection, and inflammatory conditions. In some studies, iron oxide nanoparticles are further coated with biological macromolecules (e.g. bovine serum albumin) to improve stability and loading efficiency. The resulting composite is under active translational research as an antimicrobial coating, advanced drug delivery platform, and imaging contrast agent[1][2][5].
