Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lebewohl is an over-the-counter topical combination product containing salicylic acid and lactic acid, developed by Lebewohl-Fabrik and marketed by Melisana Healthcare (a subsidiary of the Klosterfrau Healthcare Group). It is formulated as a liquid tincture or a medicated plaster (with a protective felt ring) for the treatment of corns (Hühneraugen), calluses (Hornhaut), and warts (Warzen). Salicylic acid acts as a keratolytic agent by dissolving the intercellular cement that binds keratinocytes in the stratum corneum, facilitating the shedding of hyperkeratotic skin. Lactic acid synergizes with salicylic acid by further softening and hydrating the calloused tissue, promoting desquamation and helping to remove the corn or wart from the skin bed.
