Drug intelligence / Profile preview
saline solution + Osteonil Mini is a combination treatment approach investigated for the management of thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) joint osteoarthritis, also known as rhizoarthritis. The procedure involves an initial joint lavage (washing) using a physiologic saline solution to remove inflammatory debris and mediators from the joint space, followed by an intra-articular injection of Osteonil Mini. Osteonil Mini is a viscosupplement formulation containing 10 mg of sodium hyaluronate and 5 mg of mannitol in a 1 mL solution. Sodium hyaluronate acts as a lubricant and shock absorber to restore the rheological properties of the synovial fluid, while mannitol serves as an antioxidant to protect the hyaluronic acid from oxidative degradation by free radicals. This specific treatment protocol has been studied by the University of Sao Paulo General Hospital, particularly in patients with metabolic comorbidities such as obesity and hypertension.
