Overview

Salivaricin 10 (also known as Sali10 or SALI-10) is a novel phosphorylated lantibiotic and ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptide (RiPP) developed by Ostia Sciences. It is produced by the oral probiotic strain *Streptococcus salivarius* SALI-10 and is distinguished as the first known phosphorylated lantibiotic, containing a pThr4 residue critical for its function. The peptide exhibits a dual mechanism of action: it provides targeted antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity against oral and respiratory pathogens (including those causing pneumonia) while simultaneously acting as an immunomodulator by stimulating neutrophil chemotaxis and phagocytosis and promoting anti-inflammatory M2 macrophage polarization. Ostia Sciences is developing Salivaricin 10 as a probiotic lozenge formulation in collaboration with Lallemand for the treatment of oral and respiratory tract infections.
