Overview

Salix lucida ssp. lasiandra pollen is an allergen extract derived from the Pacific willow (also known as shining willow), a tree species native to western North America. This extract is primarily utilized as a diagnostic tool in clinical allergy testing, such as skin prick tests or intradermal assays, to identify individuals with hypersensitivity to willow tree pollen. In some clinical contexts, it may also be used as the active ingredient in allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) to desensitize patients suffering from allergic rhinitis or asthma triggered by this specific pollen. As a biological product, its mechanism involves the interaction with allergen-specific IgE antibodies on the surface of mast cells and basophils, which triggers a controlled allergic response for diagnostic purposes or facilitates immune modulation to induce long-term tolerance during therapy.
