Overview
Salix nigra pollen is a non-standardized allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the black willow tree (Salix nigra). [4] It is used for both allergy testing and for allergen immunotherapy (also known as hyposensitization) in patients with allergic reactions to willow pollen, such as allergic rhinitis and asthma. The treatment works by administering gradually increasing doses of the allergen to the patient, which modulates the immune system to reduce its allergic response and build tolerance over time. This biologic product is marketed by ALK-Abello, Inc. and is administered as a subcutaneous injection solution. [1] It has been available since 1965.
