Salizolis is a topical enzymatic debridement agent developed by the Lithuanian biotechnology company JSC Biocentras. It is designed for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds characterized by the presence of necrotic tissue, such as pressure ulcers, venous leg ulcers, and burns. The active component is a proteolytic enzyme, typically a subtilisin-like protease derived from microbial fermentation, that selectively hydrolyzes denatured proteins, fibrin, and necrotic debris within the wound bed without damaging healthy, viable tissue. By removing the necrotic burden, Salizolis facilitates the transition of the wound from the inflammatory phase to the proliferative phase of healing, reduces the risk of infection, and prepares the wound bed for subsequent closure or grafting. It has been evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials comparing its efficacy to standard wound care protocols.
