Salmefamol is a sympathomimetic bronchodilator with predominantly beta-2 adrenergic agonist activity. It was investigated for the treatment of airway obstruction and compared to drugs such as salbutamol, adrenaline, and atropine. Clinical studies demonstrated that salmefamol provides significant bronchodilation, with its effects lasting longer than salbutamol and without associated tachycardia. Its mechanism involves relaxation of bronchial smooth muscle via beta-2 receptor activation, increasing cyclic AMP and thereby producing smooth muscle relaxation in the airways[3][4]. Its development and clinical evaluation date back to the 1970s.
