Salmonella-IL2 (also known as Saltikva) is an orally administered, genetically engineered attenuated strain of *Salmonella typhimurium* that carries the human gene for interleukin-2 (IL-2)[1][4][5]. This live biotherapeutic product is designed to selectively colonize solid tumors and locally release IL-2 within the tumor microenvironment. The local expression of IL-2 stimulates natural killer (NK) cell proliferation and activity, enhancing anti-tumor immune responses while minimizing systemic toxicity associated with systemic IL-2 administration[1][4]. Preclinical studies have shown robust tumor colonization and synergistic effects with chemotherapy agents such as doxorubicin[4][5]. Clinical trials have demonstrated safety in humans and increases in NK cell populations; ongoing Phase II trials are evaluating its efficacy in combination with standard chemotherapies for metastatic pancreatic cancer[3][4][5].
