Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Salmonella Newport Bacterial Extract is a specialized veterinary vaccine designed to protect cattle against salmonellosis caused by *Salmonella enterica* serovar Newport. It is the first vaccine to utilize Siderophore Receptor and Porin (SRP) technology, which focuses on the bacterial cell wall proteins responsible for iron uptake. By immunizing animals with these purified SRP proteins, the vaccine stimulates the production of antibodies that bind to and block these essential channels. Because iron is a limiting and vital nutrient for bacterial replication and pathogenesis, this blockade effectively starves the bacteria, leading to reduced colonization, decreased fecal shedding, and mitigated clinical symptoms in both dairy and beef cattle. The vaccine is primarily indicated for use in healthy dairy and beef cattle and is administered via subcutaneous injection.
