Overview
Salmonella typhi capsular polysaccharide vaccine is a subunit (polysaccharide) vaccine used for active immunization against typhoid fever caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi. The primary component is the purified Vi (virulence) capsular polysaccharide extracted from Salmonella typhi strain Ty2. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce anti-Vi antibodies, which confer protection against infection by preventing bacterial invasion and survival in the host. It is indicated for individuals two years of age and older and provides moderate efficacy with a single intramuscular dose. The duration of protection typically lasts 2–3 years, after which revaccination may be considered[6][7][8]. Sanofi Pasteur developed and manufactures this formulation under the brand name Typhim Vi.
