Overview
Salmovac is a live attenuated vaccine designed for active immunization of poultry, specifically chickens (layers, layer breeders, and broiler breeders). It contains a genetically stable, double-attenuated (adenine-histidine auxotrophic) Salmonella Enteritidis mutant strain (strain 441/014). Administered orally via drinking water, the vaccine stimulates both cell-mediated immunological mechanisms and antibody formation in chickens. This immune response provides protection against salmonellosis by reducing the colonization, persistence, and invasion of the intestinal tract and internal organs by both Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium. Originally developed by IDT Biologika GmbH, Salmovac is now manufactured and marketed by Ceva Santé Animale following an acquisition.
