Saltikva

Saltikva (Salmonella-IL2) is an orally administered, attenuated strain of *Salmonella enterica* serovar Typhimurium genetically engineered to express human interleukin-2 (IL-2). Developed by Salspera in collaboration with the University of Minnesota, Saltikva acts as a live biotherapeutic platform that preferentially colonizes solid tumors. Once inside the tumor microenvironment, the bacteria locally secrete IL-2, which stimulates and expands populations of natural killer (NK) cells and CD8+ cytotoxic T-cells to promote an anti-tumor immune response while avoiding the systemic toxicities typically associated with intravenous cytokine therapy. Saltikva is currently in clinical development for Stage IV metastatic pancreatic cancer, osteosarcoma, and metastatic colorectal cancer, and has received FDA Fast Track and Orphan Drug designations.
