Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Salvia chinensis (Shi Jian Chuan) is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb classified as an "herb that invigorates the blood." It is used to stimulate blood circulation and is commonly indicated for conditions such as metrorrhagia, postmenstrual abdominal pain, amenorrhea, postpartum abdominal pain, arthralgia due to wind-dampness, various forms of cancer (including liver, stomach, colon, lung, esophageal and nasopharyngeal cancers), bone pain, abscesses and carbuncles. Additional uses include scrofula (lymph node tuberculosis), hepatitis and early-stage cirrhosis. The mechanism of action in TCM includes invigorating the blood flow and clearing heat/toxins; some modern studies suggest it may inhibit cancer cell growth. The plant's properties are described as bitter/acrid/bland in taste and cold or neutral in nature. It targets the heart, pericardium, lung, stomach liver spleen channels[1][2][4][5][6].
