Overview

Salvia miltiorrhiza polyphenolic acid is a purified botanical extract derived from the root of *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen), a traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It is primarily composed of water-soluble polyphenolic compounds, with salvianolic acid B serving as the major active constituent. The drug is approved in China for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke and cerebral infarction. Its therapeutic mechanism involves neuroprotection through the inhibition of oxidative stress, reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokine production (such as TNF-alpha and IL-6), and prevention of neuronal apoptosis. Additionally, it has been shown to improve cerebral microcirculation and maintain blood-brain barrier integrity following ischemic injury. It is typically administered via intravenous infusion in clinical settings.
