Overview

Salvianolic acid A is a polyphenolic compound and stilbenoid extracted primarily from Salvia miltiorrhiza (Danshen), as well as other plants such as Origanum vulgare. It is recognized for its antioxidant and free radical scavenging properties. Salvianolic acid A has been investigated for cardioprotective effects and is under clinical evaluation in trials such as NCT03908242 (Phase I Study of Continuous Administration of Salvianolic Acid A Tablet). The compound is formed by the combination of danshensu and two molecules of caffeic acid. Its mechanism includes direct antioxidant activity through free radical scavenging and indirect effects via upregulation of antioxidant enzymes such as Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway[1][6][10].
