Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Salvianolic acid C (SAC) is a natural polyphenolic compound extracted from the root of *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen), a traditional Chinese medicinal herb. It exhibits a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, and anti-fibrotic properties. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its therapeutic potential in various conditions, such as acute kidney injury (AKI), hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI), ischemic stroke, and influenza. Mechanistically, salvianolic acid C acts as a selective inhibitor of the m6A reader YTHDF1, a noncompetitive inhibitor of cytochrome P450 2C8 (CYP2C8), and an inhibitor of influenza virus neuraminidase (NA). It also modulates several signaling pathways, including activating the HSP90α/PI3K/Akt cascade, promoting renal gluconeogenesis via PCK1 and FBP1, and inhibiting neuroinflammation through the TLR4-TREM1-NF-κB pathway.
