Overview

Salvigenin is a natural trimethoxylated flavone found in medicinal plants such as *Scutellariae Barbatae Herba* and *Scutellariae Radix*. It exhibits significant anti-tumor activity, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colon cancer. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of the PI3K/AKT/GSK-3β signaling pathway, which leads to the suppression of aerobic glycolysis (the Warburg effect) by reducing glucose uptake and lactate production. Additionally, salvigenin has been shown to sensitize cancer cells to chemotherapy agents like 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and induce apoptosis in both in-vitro and in-vivo models.
