Salymet

Salymet is a topical analgesic cream developed and manufactured by the Vietnamese pharmaceutical company Pharmedic. It is a combination product containing methyl salicylate, menthol, and camphor, formulated for the symptomatic relief of musculoskeletal pain, including arthritis, rheumatism, neuralgia, and muscle strains. Methyl salicylate acts as a counter-irritant and a precursor to salicylic acid, which inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes to reduce prostaglandin synthesis. Menthol and camphor function as topical analgesics by stimulating sensory nerves to produce cooling and warming sensations, effectively masking underlying pain through a counter-irritant mechanism. The product is marketed as an over-the-counter (OTC) generic treatment in Vietnam.
