Overview

Samalizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody designed for oncology indications. It targets the immunoregulatory protein CD200 (also known as OX-2), which is expressed on various hematologic malignant cells. By binding to CD200, samalizumab blocks its interaction with the CD200 receptor (CD200R) on macrophage-lineage cells, thereby inhibiting CD200-mediated immune suppression and potentially enhancing cytotoxic T-lymphocyte responses against tumor cells. Samalizumab has demonstrated immunomodulating and antineoplastic activities in preclinical studies and early-phase clinical trials. It has been investigated primarily for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and multiple myeloma, showing a favorable safety profile and evidence of reduced tumor burden in CLL patients. The drug was developed by Alexion Pharmaceuticals[1][2][3][4][5][6].
