Overview

Samarium-153 hydroxyapatite (153Sm-HA) is a radiopharmaceutical used for radiation synovectomy. It consists of the beta-emitting radioisotope Samarium-153 incorporated into hydroxyapatite particles. The drug is administered via intra-articular injection, delivering localized radiation to the synovial membrane. This radiation aims to reduce inflammation and ablate hypertrophied synovial tissue, making it effective in treating conditions like hemophilic arthropathy and rheumatoid arthritis.
