Overview

Samital is a standardized botanical drug candidate developed by Indena S.p.A., specifically designed for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. It is a fixed-dose combination of three highly purified botanical extracts: *Vaccinium myrtillus* (bilberry), *Terminalia chebula* (chebulic myrobalan), and *Glycyrrhiza glabra* (licorice). The therapeutic efficacy of Samital is attributed to its multi-faceted mechanism of action, which includes potent anti-inflammatory effects via the inhibition of NF-κB and COX-2 pathways, significant antioxidant activity to mitigate radiation-induced oxidative damage, and antimicrobial properties that prevent secondary infections. Clinical studies have demonstrated its potential to reduce the severity and duration of mucosal lesions, thereby improving the quality of life for oncology patients.
