Drug intelligence / Profile preview
San Huang capsule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula based on the Wumen medical tradition, developed by the Suzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. It is primarily investigated for its potential to prevent the progression of prediabetes to type 2 diabetes mellitus by modulating early glucose homeostasis. The formula typically contains three "yellow" herbs: *Rhizoma Coptidis* (Huang Lian), *Radix et Rhizoma Rhei* (Da Huang), and *Radix Scutellariae* (Huang Qin). In clinical studies, it is evaluated for its effects on postprandial glucose, insulin, C-peptide, and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) levels following high-fat meals. The mechanism of action is thought to involve the stimulation of GLP-1 secretion and the activation of metabolic pathways such as AMPK, which improve insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance.
