Overview

SAN2008 is a small molecule ion-channel modulator developed by Saniona, specifically designed to target the Kv7 (KCNQ) family of potassium channels. It is being investigated for the treatment of rare pediatric epilepsy syndromes, including Dravet syndrome. By acting as a positive modulator (opener) of Kv7 channels, particularly the Kv7.2 and Kv7.3 subunits which constitute the M-current, SAN2008 aims to stabilize the resting membrane potential of neurons and reduce the hyperexcitability that triggers seizures. The drug is currently in Phase 1/2 clinical development, focusing on pediatric populations where conventional anti-seizure medications may be ineffective.
