Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sanaria PfSPZ Vaccine is an investigational, whole-organism malaria vaccine developed by Sanaria Inc. It consists of aseptic, purified, cryopreserved, radiation-attenuated *Plasmodium falciparum* sporozoites. Unlike traditional subunit vaccines, it utilizes the entire sporozoite to induce broad immune responses against the pre-erythrocytic stage of the malaria parasite. The vaccine is designed to provide high-level protection against malaria infection and is being evaluated for use in travelers, military personnel, and for malaria elimination programs in endemic regions such as Bioko Island, Equatorial Guinea. Due to the requirement for live, metabolically active sporozoites, the vaccine is stored and transported using a specialized cryogenic cold chain.
