Overview

Sancai Fengsui Decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal compound currently in Phase 2 clinical development for the treatment and rehabilitation of radiation-induced oral mucositis (RTOM) in patients with head and neck cancer. Developed by Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University, the formula is a combination of two classic TCM prescriptions: Sancai Dan (comprising *Panax ginseng*, *Asparagus cochinchinensis*, and *Rehmannia glutinosa*) and Fengsui Dan (comprising *Phellodendron chinense*, *Amomum villosum*, and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis*). The decoction is hypothesized to alleviate the "yin deficiency and fire flourishing" state often associated with radiotherapy-induced tissue damage. Mechanistically, it is thought to exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, reducing oral pain and promoting the healing of the oral mucosa while improving symptoms of xerostomia.
