Overview
Sancailianmei Particle is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of metabolic disorders, specifically type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The formula is a combination of the "Sancai" (Three Talents) herbs—Ginseng, Rehmannia, and Asparagus—and the "Lianmei" herbs—Coptis and Mume. It is designed to address the TCM pathogenesis of "Yin deficiency and internal heat" often associated with metabolic syndrome. Mechanistically, it is thought to improve insulin sensitivity, regulate glucose and lipid metabolism, and reduce hepatic steatosis by modulating pathways such as AMPK and reducing systemic inflammation. It is currently utilized as a hospital-made preparation and has been the subject of several clinical trials in China.
