Sandivadam Lepaya

Sandivadam Lepaya (SVL) is a multi-ingredient traditional Sri Lankan herbal paste (Paththu/Lepa) used as a topical/external local application for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). It consists of 15 herbal ingredients and is part of a broader Sri Lankan traditional medicine (STM) regimen studied in a clinical trial conducted by researchers from the Institute of Indigenous Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. In the trial, SVL was applied externally for 30 days and compared against diclofenac sodium gel (conventional treatment). It is a traditional herbal/botanical formulation (multi-component plant-based preparation), not a single-molecule small molecule or biologic. No specific single active ingredient, brand name, or defined biological target has been identified in the available literature; its mechanism is consistent with traditional Ayurvedic/Sri Lankan indigenous medicine principles for joint pain relief.
