Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sangpanasine (桑辘碱) is a natural product-derived small molecule being developed by Jiangsu Jibeier Pharmaceutical for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Derived from mulberry alkaloids, the compound functions as an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor. By inhibiting alpha-glucosidase enzymes in the brush border of the small intestine, Sangpanasine slows the breakdown of complex carbohydrates into glucose, thereby delaying glucose absorption and reducing postprandial blood glucose excursions. The drug is currently in preclinical development and is formulated as an oral capsule.
