Overview
Sanguisorba officinalis + Sophora japonica is a traditional Chinese medicinal combination, often referred to as "SOSJ," used primarily for its hemostatic (bleeding-stopping) effects and therapeutic action in hemorrhagic conditions, particularly ulcerative colitis. Contemporary pharmacological studies indicate this combination alleviates inflammation and pathological angiogenesis in ulcerative colitis, likely by modulating the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and reducing expression of inflammatory factors (including IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, VEGF, VCAM1, Ang1, MMP1, MMP2, and MMP9)[1][6]. The individual herbs, Sanguisorba officinalis and Sophora japonica, are also known to exhibit strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects[2][3].
