Overview
Sanhuang Pian (三黄片) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) tablet formulation developed and manufactured by Handan Pharmaceutical and other producers. It is a classic 'heat-clearing' and 'detoxifying' remedy composed of three primary herbal ingredients: *Rheum palmatum* (Dahuang), *Coptis chinensis* (Huanglian), and *Scutellaria baicalensis* (Huangqin). The formula is widely used to treat symptoms associated with 'internal fire' or 'heat-toxicity,' including constipation, sore throat, mouth ulcers, and swollen gums. Pharmacologically, the anthraquinones in Rhubarb provide a purgative effect by stimulating the large intestine, while berberine from Coptis and baicalin from Scutellaria offer broad-spectrum antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
