Overview
Sanhuang Yilong Decoction (SYD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the General Hospital of Chengdu Military Region (General Hospital of Western Theater Command) for the treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis (RA), particularly in patients presenting with dampness-heat blockage syndrome. The decoction is formulated to clear heat, dispel dampness, and unblock collaterals. Mechanistically, Sanhuang Yilong Decoction has been shown to modulate the expression of aquaporins (AQPs) in the serum and synovial fluid, and to suppress inflammatory signaling pathways, including STAT and NF-kB, thereby downregulating pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, and IL-17.
