Overview
Sanna Sleep is a cannabinoid-based therapeutic candidate developed by Sanna Science for the treatment of insomnia. The formulation consists of a proprietary blend of cannabinol (CBN), cannabidiol (CBD), and a low dose of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), combined with a specific terpene profile branded as Remniol™. The drug is designed to be non-hypnotic, non-psychoactive, and melatonin-free, positioning it as a safer alternative to traditional prescription sleep aids such as benzodiazepines and Z-drugs (e.g., zolpidem). Its mechanism of action involves a three-stage process: easing anxiety to calm the mind, interacting with the cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) to facilitate deeper sleep, and supporting the maintenance of restful sleep throughout the night. Clinical evidence includes a completed randomized placebo-controlled trial, with further Phase 1b/2a studies planned in collaboration with investigators from King's College London.
