Sanpian Decoction (散偏汤) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily used for the treatment of migraines and other paroxysmal headaches. Originally documented in the Qing Dynasty medical text *Bian Zheng Lu* by Chen Shiduo, the formula is traditionally indicated for headaches caused by 'wind-phlegm' or 'blood stasis' patterns. The decoction typically consists of eight botanical ingredients: Chuanxiong (*Ligusticum striatum*), Baizhi (*Angelica dahurica*), Xiangfu (*Cyperus rotundus*), Yujin (*Curcuma aromatica*), Bai Shao (*Paeonia lactiflora*), Chai Hu (*Bupleurum chinense*), Jie Geng (*Platycodon grandiflorus*), and Gan Cao (*Glycyrrhiza uralensis*). Modern clinical research, including multicenter randomized controlled trials led by institutions such as the Henan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, evaluates its safety and efficacy in reducing the frequency, duration, and intensity of migraine attacks, potentially through the modulation of neurovascular inflammation and neurotransmitter levels.
