Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sanqi Huogu Wan is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily indicated for the treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH), bone fractures, and osteoarthritis. The preparation is heavily based on the pharmacological properties of *Panax notoginseng* (Sanqi), which contains active ginsenosides and notoginsenosides that promote blood circulation and reduce stasis. In the context of bone necrosis, the drug is reported to stimulate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2), facilitating angiogenesis and the recruitment of osteoblasts to the site of injury. It is widely utilized in orthopedic hospitals in China, notably the Henan Province Luoyang Orthopedic Hospital, where it was developed as a specialized clinical preparation to improve joint function and delay the need for surgical intervention.
