Overview

Sanqi Qushi Granules (SQG) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine for the treatment of idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) and nephrotic syndrome. It is a multi-herb compound consisting of seven botanical ingredients: Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae (Tu Fu Ling), Atractylodes macrocephala (Bai Zhu), Astragali Radix (Huang Qi), Isaria cicadae (Chan Hua), Curcuma phaeocaulis (E Zhu), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chi Shao), and Panax notoginseng (San Qi). SQG is derived from a long-standing hospital preparation known as Sanqi oral solution and is currently being evaluated in the multicenter SQ-AUTUMN clinical trial. Mechanistically, network pharmacology studies suggest that SQG exerts its therapeutic effects primarily through the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, which helps protect podocytes from injury and inhibits apoptosis in the kidneys, thereby reducing proteinuria.
