Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sanqi Tongshu (三七通舒) is a modern Chinese patent medicine formulated as an enteric-coated capsule. Its primary active ingredient is notoginsenoside (三七三醇皂苷), a saponin compound extracted from Panax notoginseng (commonly known as "Sanqi"). The drug is indicated for promoting blood circulation, resolving blood stasis, unblocking meridians, and improving cerebral infarction and ischemic dysfunction. It works by inhibiting platelet aggregation, preventing thrombosis formation, improving microcirculation, reducing whole blood viscosity, and increasing carotid artery blood flow. Pharmacological studies show that it protects against experimental cerebral ischemia and infarction in animals by lowering cerebrovascular resistance and enhancing arterial flow. Clinically approved in China since 2003 for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular embolic diseases—including stroke (ischemic), hemiplegia, facial paralysis due to stroke sequelae, speech impairment after stroke or brain injury—and has demonstrated efficacy with a low rate of mild adverse reactions[1][3][4][5][6][7][8].
