Drug intelligence / Profile preview
SANT-7 is a synthetic peptide derivative that functions as a highly selective antagonist of the interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R). By binding to the IL-6 receptor and blocking its interaction with interleukin-6 (IL-6), SANT-7 inhibits downstream IL-6-mediated signal transduction pathways. IL-6 is a cytokine involved in inflammatory responses, immune regulation, and tumor growth; thus, SANT-7 has been investigated as a potential therapeutic agent in diseases with elevated IL-6 signaling, including certain cancers and inflammatory diseases. The peptide was designed based on modifications of human IL-6 to selectively block receptor activation without intrinsic agonist activity.
