Overview

Santin is a methoxylated flavonoid, chemically identified as 5,7-dihydroxy-3,6,4'-trimethoxyflavone, which is naturally found in plants such as *Varthemia iphionoides*. It is currently being investigated as a bioactive lead compound for the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer. Santin demonstrates cytotoxic properties in prostate cancer cell lines, including PC3 and DU145, by modulating mitochondrial function and cell-cycle progression. Research indicates that it induces apoptosis through mitochondrial membrane potential depolarization and perturbation of cell-cycle dynamics, making it a candidate for further ADMET profiling and drug development.
