Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Sanzi Yangqin decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula composed of multiple herbs. It is primarily used for the treatment of respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The decoction exhibits anti-inflammatory, antitussive, expectorant, and mucus-reducing effects. Mechanistically, its activity is attributed to the inhibition of inflammation and airway mucus hypersecretion by regulating key signaling pathways including NF-κB and AKT. Key active ingredients identified in the formula include luteolin, β-carotene, and sinapine. These compounds target several core genes involved in inflammatory responses (such as IL6, TNF), cell signaling (AKT1), epithelial growth factor receptor pathways (EGFR), and others. Experimental studies have shown that Sanzi Yangqin decoction or its main components can reduce inflammatory cytokine expression (e.g., IL-6), suppress activation of NF-κB in macrophages, inhibit AKT pathway activation in airway epithelial cells, and decrease overproduction of airway mucus proteins like MUC5AC[1][2][3].
