Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**SAP-SP complex** is an experimental intra-articular, self-assembling peptide hydrogel developed for regenerative treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The active construct is a substance P-containing KLD12 peptide conjugate, KLD12-SP, with sequence Ac-KLDLKLDLKLDLGGRPKPQQFFGLM-NH2; the KLD12 segment enables hydrogel self-assembly and local retention while the substance P moiety provides biological activity. In rabbit and guinea-pig osteoarthritis models and human osteoarthritis synoviocyte studies, SAP-SP reduced inflammatory activity and apoptosis, recruited endogenous mesenchymal stem cells, and supported cartilage regeneration. It remains a preclinical research-stage therapeutic and has no identified marketed brand or assigned INN.
